The wine of Lake Como was known since Roman times. In Olcio vine cultivation was practiced, until 50 years ago. After a period of neglect, since several years viticulture is picking up again on the shores of Lake Como.
Some varieties of wines produced have been recognized since 2008 as IGT Terre Lariane, in particular, the Verdesa (or Verdese white, the only variety recognized native), the borgognina (pinot blanc and noir), the slave (called butascera). The main production area is the Alto Lario.
